Translating a large number of internet-sourced sentences into Latin for algorithm training. ENG>LAT
This was a fun project we did for PoliLingua, a translation company. The final client was in fact Google Translate and the task was a very large batch of sentences and keys sourced from various places on the internet and used to train their Google Translate software.
The task involved translating random sentences from the internet into Latin so that the software could learn patterns and improve its grammar, vocabulary and sentences structure. The vocabulary used was at times very specific and demanded words like “download”, “executive” and “wallpaper” to be rendered into Latin. For this purpose, we used many Neo-Latin lexicons which are continuously being updated.
